August 1, 2010. Mud Lake Park to Massey Marina. 16 miles

We paddled out in a heavy mist at around 8:30 this morning. The first several miles were the same miles we paddled at the end of the trip last year, but it all looked different in the mist. The water was very calm, unlike last year in this stretch of the river. We passed through lock 11 with no delay, escorted by our safety boats.
We pulled out of the river at Miller Riverview Park for lunch break, and it is there that I took this photo of Bill and Kevin relaxing.

There was a lot of traffic on the flood-swollen Mississippi River; it was a Sunday after all. We saw pontoons, power boats, jet skis, tugs pushing barges, and paddle wheel riverboats. It was very hot and sticky and the headwind was our saving grace--it was strong enough to cool us off without hampering our paddling. A great day on the river!

Linda, It's obvious your having a wonderful summer. I checked out the Red Stone Inn on line. You know how much I love historic homes. What a lovely place. Did you get the honeymoon suite? Have lot's more fun.
