April 1-3, 2014. We took the long way home.

We said goodbye to Fred and Doris at about 7 AM, packed up the tent and walked down to make our farewells to Dick and Carolyn and Tom and Pat. Everyone is leaving today. Bill and I drove to the Jekyll Island Club Hotel for breakfast and planned to go into Faith Chapel to see the Louis Comfort Tiffany window, but the chapel was not open.

We went to the Tidelands Nature Center and visited exhibits of the land and sea creatures native to Jekyll Island. I had biked past here several times and had not had time to come in. We drove across the bridge to St. Simon's Island and explored it a little on our way through.

We traveled up the coast of Georgia and South Carolina, taking our time and seeing the sights.. Wednesday morning we drove to the Outer Banks of NC to see what we could see... we are planning a trip there next month for our anniversary. We ate lunch on Roanoke Island and checked out several neighborhoods that have Bed and Breakfasts. Then we crossed the bridge to Nag's Head, decided it was too busy and headed north. We found a B&B at Kill Devil Hills that looks like it could work. My plan is to ride my bike the length of the Outer Banks, so we want to stay someplace near the middle.

We did not go into the Wright Brothers Memorial, having run out of time, but it is at the top of our list for our trip here in May!

We spent the last night near Raleigh, NC. Thursday we drove the rest of the way home, traveling from 70 degrees and sunny to 37 degrees and raining. Ah well, spring has to arrive in Michigan sooner or later.
