March 27-28, 2014. En route

For the past 3 years Bill and I have tried to drive down to Florida to spend time with our friends from here. They leave Michigan for warmer weather in January and return around April 1. Every year there has been some obstacle to our making the trip, even for a week! This year we finally planned to drive down to meet them at Jekyll Island, GA (near the Florida border).

As we drove south the snowbanks diminished, but were not entirely gone until we were through Virginia into North Carolina! I guess it was a bad winter everywhere! We spent the night in NC, and it was mid-morning when we got to the SC/GA border.

We still had hours to go to Jekyll Island, arriving around 3:30 PM. We were glad to see Fred and Doris, took a break and then set up our tent, knowing the rain was coming. After the tent was set up we all went to dinner and then walked around the Jekyll Island Harbor looking at the boats.

It was raining by the time we returned to the campground. We visited in Fred and Doris's trailer for a while and then called it a night. Before we went off to our tent we checked the weather map. It does not look good for tomorrow...
