Poland: August 23-24. Detroit to Warsaw

Several years ago I met some people from the Polish American Foundation of Connecticut. They presented a program at the Polish Genealogical Society of Michigan seminar and afterward mentioned that they had some spots open in their annual trip to Poland. Their destination was not where I wanted to go, so I asked them to notify me when they were going to the Poznan district, the home of my father's ancestors.

I got an email in January; they were going to Poznan, and I signed up!

I took a Polish language beginner course over the summer, and booked my flights to coincide with theirs, meeting most of them at JFK airport. We took an overnight flight to Warsaw on Polish Airlines, arriving in early afternoon due to the 6 hour time change.

The downtown area of Warsaw consists mostly of new buildings and skyscrapers, because it was bombed into oblivion during World War 2. This photo was taken out of my hotel window.

We  took the subway to Old Town Warsaw because Rick wanted to go to a bakery/cafe where his grandmother had worked before the war. We found the bakery, walked around a bit and had dinner in Old Town.

Dorena's friend Tadek met us at the hotel and went with us on our adventure. They were happy to see each other!
