Today was Diana's "Ghost Ride". No, we did not see any ghosts; she calls it that because it includes much of the route that several other bike clubs have used in their organized rides, and ALL of those rides have been abandoned.
A dozen of us met in Maybee Michigan to start our ride. The first leg of the ride felt pretty good--it was a cool sunny morning and the wind was at our backs.
We stopped at Papa's in Petersburg for breakfast about 15 miles into the ride. Unfortunately one of the riders had had a flat tire and the four riders in her group were late arriving at the restaurant. We did not see them the rest of the day, as they had not even gotten their food by the time the other 8 of us were back on the road.
Seven of us rode together from Petersburg, with the 8th riding the shorter route. We stopped in Blissfield for a comfort break, then rode to the Blissfield Train Station. They run a dinner train out of there, and we discussed taking advantage of that some day.
The wind had picked up by then, and of course it was no longer at our backs! We got a little spread out after that, and when we got back to Petersburg I decided to take a short cut back to Maybee--it cut 9 miles off the planned route of 66 miles and gave me time to see my sister there. Jake and I left the rest of the group and fought the wind back to our starting point. It was lovely day to be out there!
