Cottonwood to Flagstaff AZ 46 miles

What a great day!

This day's scenery was spectacular--as we left Cottonwood the sun was shining on the red rocks and there was one hot air balloon hovering off to the west. The breeze was gentle as were the climbs and the descents. This was my favorite day so far.

I just posted a photo from the phone showing the switchback road we took up the mountain from the bottom of Oak Creek Canyon. It only shows a couple of the switchbacks, but it gives you an idea of the climb we had this AM. This was the first time that the cue sheet describes a climb as STEEP. No kidding--I guess all the rest of the climbing we did was NOT STEEP. So why was I in granny gear so much?????

We are now in Flagstaff, getting ready for an early dinner. I saw this lobby computer unoccupied so took advantage of it! We are in the shadow of the snowcapped mountain that we saw from a distance yesterday. What a wonderful day.

By now we have traveled from the beach to the desert to the mountains. Surfers and a wheel dip; dust devils and dead snakes; tearful mountain descent; spectacular scenery.... This is indeed the trip of a lifetime, and it's only begun!
