Friday January 23

We started our day with a tough workout in the pool! We started out slowly and ramped up the speed on successive sets of 200 meters with a 100 meter cooldown between sets. By the 5th and final set we were sprinting 25, swimming 25... after that, 10 of us went on a bike ride. This was the best route yet. Once we got away from the initial traffic we did loops on nicely paved lightly traveled roads.

In the evening we all attended the dedication of the 50 meter pool. I did not know Doug Stern, but I wish I had! What a legacy! He began coming here 20 years ago with ever larger groups of swimmers. His dream was to have a 50 meter pool here at the Lions Dive, and we all toasted him at the dedication and naming of the 50 meter Doug Stern pool. Speeches were given, a tear was shed, and a good time was had by all. (our coach Boris thinks he can walk on water).
The sunset as seen from the Doug Stern Pool. This is me with the empty chair where Bill should be sitting!
