Bike Ride to the Beach

It was chilly again today (by Florida standards) in the mid fifties with gusty winds. Charlie and Dianne and I rode out from here at 8:30 AM and met up with Kat and Otis and Jack at 9. Otis arrived in the area yesterday and he is going to ride with us while he's here. Jack is from New York and is here temporarily to look in on his inlaws, and happened to bring his bike along...

We set off on the Pinellas Rail Trial again, heading south to Clearwater. We stopped at Pier 60 where a lovely young couple from Toronto took our photo. It was too early for lunch, so we crossed the causeway to Clearwater Beach, looked around a little and then crossed another bridge to Sand Key. I used my small chain ring to climb up the bridges, first time this whole trip! Apparently this is where the locals cyclists go to train on hills...

The beach was rather deserted at Sand Key, but we took a break there and enjoyed the sun and the scenery. The white sand is a sight to behold! Then we crossed back over the bridges, Jack went off toward home and the rest of us had lunch in Frenchy's, which has been there since before the area was developed. We fought a headwind all the way back and I found that I was too tired to go swimming (didn't sleep last night). So it was Scrabble and dinner across the road at Charlie's. Total mileage for the day: a windy 36 miles. Scrabble: after 16 games we are at 8 wins each.
