August 15: Transition day

We started this day at 6:30, as usual, and boy were we busy! We had to be out of the hotel by 11:00, and could not check in to the next one until 3 PM. And we had to be packed into 2 bags weighing not more than 25 lbs. apiece, including tent, sleeping bags, mess kits, and bike and camp clothes to cover temperatures from 30 to 90 degrees!

At 10:58 I called the desk and told them we were out of the room and would be up soon to check out. I had packed the things I thought I would not need into my large suitcase and pulled the suitcase and bike box up to the lobby to be stored for the next 9 days. We hauled our duffel bags for the bike trip, and the bikes, to Cowboy Village Resort and then went to lunch at Bubba's famous barbeque.

We went to town then, to try one more time to get Adam a shirt with an elk on it...no luck. Came back, and since our room was not ready..... we sat outside and played Scrabble! We kept at it until it was time for dinner and meeting. At this point we are 3 and 3, but Dianne is ahead on points. We have days and days to make that up!

We had a very detailed and serious lecture about bears, what to do and not do while riding and camping in Grizzly bear country, where we will be for the next 4 days. After that we only have to worry about black bears and mountain lions. Oh boy. Dianne and Steve and I are cooking tomorrow so we had to discuss the menu, and finally came to a consensus.

Dianne and I are rooming with Judy tonight; she is the other woman in the group (aside from Lynn, who is part of the crew), and it seems that we will get along famously. She is from Wyoming so she brought bear spray. I think we're going to ride with her!
