May 3, 2012. New Orleans

We started this day with breakfast at a little place we found last night--they are open 24 hours a day and have a breakfast special from 6:30 until 9 AM. It still seems strange to me to see people drinking beer at 7 AM, but the man sitting next to us was doing just that. He was on day 3 of a bender, drinking and playing, and not sleeping at all. I guess it takes all kinds. After breakfast we returned to our hotel, Dianne did the laundry while I did the blog, and then we checked out and stowed our bikes and luggage in the storeroom.
We took the street car down to the the Riverwalk and checked it out. This is NOT a morning town--there were few people out and about. We saw the riverboat tied up at the dock, had a very good lunch, and then headed to the Westin Hotel to meet our biking group.

After the 1 PM meeting with Woman Tours we walked back to our hotel (6 blocks away) and retrieved our bikes. We rode our bikes back to the Westin, then walked back to the other hotel and schlepped our luggage the 6 blocks... by then I was hot and tired, and we showered and played Scrabble until it was time for dinner.
Some of the women are really getting into the New Orleans attitude! We all had a great time at dinner--it's going to take a while to get to know everyone...While most of us are from the United States, we have one from Scotland, one from Australia, and 2 from the Netherlands. It is a diverse group of 32 women (insluding the guides) all riding along the banks of the Mississippi River for a variety of reasons, all glad to be here.

This is the view of the Mississippi River from our window on the 17th floor.
