July 30. 2014. Rest day at home. Sort of.

The tour around Lake Erie continued without me today, riding 83 miles from St. Thomas to Chatham Ontario. Bill picked me up at St. Thomas last night and drove me home, a 6 hour round trip for him.

I went to my Ophthalmologist this morning and she sent me to a retina specialist in downtown Detroit. When I arrived there I was examined by 2 Retina Specialists--I feel like I should have 2 black eyes after all the prodding and looking they did! They determined that I have Posterior Vitreous Detachment in both eyes, with symptoms only in the right eye. There is no evidence of retinal tearing at this time, so no surgery is recommended.

I was told that I would get used to the dots and swirls in my vision, but that it may take 3 to 6 months! The risk of surgery for this condition outweigh the potential benefits, according to the Retina Specialists that I saw. Since I had such sudden onset of symptom I am going back Monday afternoon, and then again in 3 months for a recheck. If anything changes I am to call and see him immediately. The symptoms for torn retina are identical to what I am having.

So I will be back with the tour tomorrow afternoon, to finish the last 2 days.
