We rode through some zig-zagging trails that I couldn't repeat if my life depended on it, finally ending up on a trail that runs along Clear Creek in Golden.
There were sculptures along the creek, and a lot of people on the trail.
After we were through most of the congestion and twists and turns, Ty offered to let me lead. I went up a paved portion of the path up to the turnoff for Lookout Mountain. Then my phone went off--they were at the bottom of the 2 mile climb, having decided not to go that way! I came back down in no time at all and we rode out of town on dirt trail that was much flatter. This portion of the trail also ran beside Clear Creek. There were several cutoffs that were designated for climbers only.
When we got to the end of the dirt trail we turned around and rode back to the car. I had 8 miles in by then. Germaine and Ty decided they'd had enough and we loaded up the bikes and drove back to Kathy's house.
Kathy and I drove around a little so she could show me where some more trails were, and then I set out again on the bike.
I rode the Meadowlark Trail, which starts near Kathy's house. The first mile and a half is all uphill on dirt trail. The downhill portion was loose gravel so I descended carefully.
When I got to the end of the Meadowlark Trail I rode a bike lane over to the US-36 Bike Trail that I rode yesterday morning. It was well into the 90s by then, and I was hot and tired and hungry! I rode to Panera Bread and had lunch and then headed home. I only rode 20 miles today, but I was less tired when I rode 66 miles 2 weeks ago!
I showered, put in a load of laundry, and spent about an hour in the hammock in the shade. Kathy went to Denver airport to pick up 2 of her sisters, who will be here for the next week. Once everyone got settled in, Kathy, R and I drove to Denver to attend a Mariachi baby shower! We were the only non-Spanish-speaking people there, but the food was good, the band was great (even though we could not understand a word of it), and their friends were very happy to see them.
They carried around this large frame and took photos with their guests--here are Kathy, Lety, Jamie and R in the frame. What a great idea!
