August 10, 2018. Colorado.

I've been wanting to ride more, so I set out this morning at 7 AM by myself. Of course I took a wrong turn trying to get to the trail I wanted to ride. I rode through a construction area with many closed roads until I finally found the trailhead for the Highway 36 trail.

This trail runs along the highway from Denver to Boulder. I chose to go east (toward Denver).

The trail crossed over and under the highway several times, meandered through the prairie, and went through a couple of parks. I saw a lot of prairie dogs--at first I thought they were cute, but then I decided I surely would not want them in my yard!

I certainly got a good morning workout! There was a lot of climbing, but nothing very steep. This was the first time I wished I had my road bike here--fat knobby tires were not made for concrete bike paths!

I arrived back at Kathy and R's house a little before 9, having ridden 18 miles. Kathy was already gone to work, so I had a cup of coffee and some breakfast and waited for Germaine to arrive for our day's adventure.

Ross took our photo beside the truck Germaine has been using to haul our bikes and ourselves to all the trails we've been riding. Today we parked at a soccer field and got on the Four Mile Creek Trail. Unfortunately it did not go even four miles! So we turned around and rode over to her friend Marguerite's house.

The three of us had planned to bike to Boulder Reservoir, but Marguerite's bike was broken so she drove up while Germaine and I biked. There was a lot of traffic and one steep hill on the way there.

There were small sailboats, paddleboards and kayaks out on the water. Haystack mountain is in the background.

There was a swimming beach so we all went for a short swim. We sat in the shade for a nice long break, had a snack and then got back on the bikes.

There was a lot more uphill on the way back than we had on the way down to the reservoir! We stopped on the tallest hill and took a photo looking back.

In the evening Kathy and I drove to Louisville to meet Germaine and her brother in law and sister in law at a street fair. We listened to some music and Germaine's sister in law took our photo. Here we are: me, Germaine and Kathy!
