August 14, 2018. In Colorado.

We packed up this morning and set out for Vail. Germaine and I took the bikes and drove through Clear Creek Canyon, a lovely drive. I took photos through the windshield, which Germaine had washed this morning.

We stopped at the visitors center at Georgetown.

We drove into Dillon, parked the truck and got on our bikes. It was already noon when we started, contrary to our plan to get an early start! The photo below was taken just one mile into our ride. We had to stop frequently for photo opportunities because it was such a beautiful ride!

We rode around Dillon Lake, with spectacular views in every direction. Here is Germaine on the path.

We got to Frisco and the path got rather confusing. There was a turnoff to Breckenridge, which we definitely did not want to take. I even stopped a man on the trail and asked him which way to go to get back to Dillon going around the lake. We think we followed his directions, but ended up back where we met him, after first climbing to the highest point on the path--9,140 ft!

Finally we turned around and took the same path back to Dillon. As we were coming across the dam the wind picked up--here is Germaine coming into Dillon at the end of the ride. Total miles for today: 17.5.

We met Kathy, Eileen and Patti Ellen at the parking lot and went to lunch--it was already 3 PM!

After lunch we drove up to Vail where we are staying 2 nights. It was a beautiful drive, and I am very glad that I was not driving!
