August 15, 2018. In Vail, Colorado.

We started out a little late this morning; we did not leave Vail until 8 AM. Kathy drove us up to Vail Pass, elevation 10, 513 feet. She dropped us off and we planned to ride back to Vail.

We started out on a slight downhill, with Black Lake on our left.

The terrain dropped off quickly once we got on the bike path.

The path ran alongside I-70 for much of the way, sometimes quite close to the freeway.

We were on the brakes a lot--most of this ride was downhill, with just enough rolling hills to make it interesting.

We came upon a large group of teenagers on roller skis. They told me they were training for the Nordic Team. It looked like a lot of fun!

We biked down to West Vail, back to where we are staying. We biked 19 miles with an altitude drop of over 2,200 feet!

After shower and breakfast we were off once again. We all loaded up and drove down to the parking area in Vail and got a city bus to take us to Vail Village. Kathy provided us all with hats because the sun is so intense at this altitude.

We walked around Vail Village for a couple of hours, took the bus back to the parking lot and then drove to Ford Gardens. This complex was endowed by President Gerald R Ford and his wife Betty, who were known and loved locally.

The gardens were beautiful--these are Germaine's photos.
