October 7, 2018. Mystic, CT to Fort Lee, NJ.

We loaded up after breakfast and drove to Fort Lee. This involved driving across Manhattan, which was not an easy task, even on Sunday morning. Fortunately Fred blocked for us when we needed to change lanes.

We arrived at Fort Lee and Dianne's sister Julie was waiting for us. We've been carrying a chair in the back of our truck this whole trip.. She wanted this chair, in this particular color (banana yellow) but Macy's would not deliver it except in the midwest... so when she asked if she could have it delivered to our house we offered to bring it to Fort Lee, just one hour from where she lives in New York. Here are Erica, Alex, Julie and Dianne, three generations of their family. If Erica looks amused it's because she was! She and Dianne thought that our carrying this chair from Michigan to New Jersey (via Connecticut) was the craziest thing they'd ever heard.

Bill, Tom and Dennis loaded the chair into Julie's Jeep. It almost fit.

Finally they got the chair  into the Jeep, but then the back seat would not lock into the upright position, and they needed the back seat for Alex on the ride home. Julie and I cut apart and disassembled the cardboard and foam packaging until we could make the seat go into position.

After the chair debacle was settled we all went to lunch. It was only a mile or so away, but we had to make a bunch of turns to get there and even more to get back to our hotel. By then our rooms were ready and we checked in. I finally did our laundry.

At 5 PM my nephew Scott, his wife Aziza and daughter Alina came to  pick us up. Most of our friends came down to the lobby to meet them, and then Scott drove us to dinner and to Westfield, NJ to see their lovely home. Alina and I went for a walk around their neighborhood--just what I needed after sitting in the truck most of the day!
