On Labor Day Tom, Diana, Dennis and I rode to Detroit. It was a great day to be on the bikes! We checked on the progress of the new Gordie Howe bridge, which will connect to Windsor Ontario and have a bike lane! They are moving right along, with towers on both sides of the Detroit River..
The Riverwalk in Downtown Detroit is expanding--they are almost to Belle Isle--we only rode about a mile on East Jefferson, and there was a a protected bike lane there. We stopped at Scott Fountain on Belle Isle for a photo op, looped the island, and then took the Dequindre Cut trail to Eastern Market , where we'd planned on eating. Nothing was open there so we rode to Mexican Village and had lunch there before heading back to Wyandotte. I am fortunate to have friends like this!
I was sick at the time of my birthday in July so we did the birthday ride on September 24. We rode from Lake Erie Metropark to Newport where we had a break at the Mitten Café and Bakery. What a great new place that is! We had lunch at our usual spot in Monroe, the Public House. It was fun to see a couple of cousins there--Sherri was getting a takeout order and David was eating with a friend. My riding friends always tease me about seeing cousins everywhere and it's especially true in Monroe County!
After lunch we rode out to Calder's Farm and Ice Cream store and my great-niece Madeline was working behind the counter--that was even more fun than seeing a cousin!
We finished our ride back at Lake Erie Metropark in the afternoon--a great time was had by all!
