San Juan Islands: day 4. August 23, 2023

We walked to breakfast this morning and then were picked up in front of the hotel by a San Juan Kayak Expedition van. Our guide for the kayaking trip was Jury. He was very pleasant, and we put Dianne in the kayak with him because she was leery of going at all. We had on-shore paddling instructions and kayak fitting and then we paddled out into Puget Sound. The water was quite calm. We saw water birds and seals, but unfortunately no orcas. They are most likely in more northern waters this time of year.

We paddled to Turn Island where we had a boxed lunch and took a break. There was a hiking path around the island; many of us hiked it, but I was out there on my own. The path was steep and rocky, with sudden dropoffs down to the water.

When everyone was done hiking we got back into the kayaks and paddled back to San Juan Island where the Bicycle Adventures van was waiting for us. I would like to come back and kayak all around these islands. One day on the water was not enough for me!
