Dianne and I flew into SEATAC airport on August 18--I came in from DTW and she flew in from TPA. It all worked out. We met at the airport and took a taxi to the Thompson Hotel in downtown Seattle. It was an expensive way to get there, but the local train was available only so far--there was a station being renovated, and we would have had to get off the train and take a bus, and then walk several blocks with our luggage.
The Thompson was a first rate hotel. The Bicycle Adventures tour uses only 2 pickup points--the Thompson or an airport hotel. We decided since we were going out a day early that we'd rather stay downtown. It was a good choice.
We got into our room and then walked out to the Pikes Place Marketplace and had lunch at a small French restaurant. We walked around the Marketplace and were very glad we had taken a taxi to get there--there was no flat ground. We would have been hauling our luggage up a hill to the hotel.
We saw the line on the sidewalk outside the original Starbucks store and had no desire to get in it!
On Saturday it was more of the same. We were up very early (3 hour time change) and the hotel breakfast did not begin until 8 AM so we walked around the Marketplace and had breakfast at a little restaurant around the corner from the hotel. The food here is very good--and very expensive. We spent the rest of the day exploring downtown Seattle and playing Scrabble.
