San Juan Islands: day 1 August 20, 2023

The Bicycle Adventures van picked us up in front of the hotel at 7:30 AM. There were light snacks on the van as we rode to Anacortes, WA (but we had to bring our own coffee).

We arrived at Fidalgo Island and got instructions and bikes. Most of the people on the trip opted for e-bikes. I chose a road bike, gave them my height measurement ahead of time, and the only adjustment that had to be made was the seat height. It is a very nice bike!

The daily trip board was displayed and most of us took photos of it for use throughout the day.

We cycled along the southern end of Fidalgo Island, on the shores of Padilla Bay. Part of this morning's ride was on a lovely bike trail across the bay. There was not much traffic on this Sunday morning.

After cycling about 14 miles we arrived at the ferry. We all carried our bikes on and our guides drove the van pulling the trailer. There was room for all of us. We had lunch and a ride meeting while on the ferry.

We disembarked on Lopez Island and immediately had a steep climb. Dianne got off her bike to walk the hill and I did not see her until we got to the inn. There is no flat ground here! We rode to Spencer Spit State Park and walked out on the spit--the walking path to the spit was delightful!

We ended our day at the Edenwild Boutique Inn on Fisherman's Bay in Lopez Village after riding 17 miles on Lopez Island. We will be spending two nights in this lovely place. We walked to dinner. Most of our meals are included on this trip, and that's a very good thing. Everything is very expensive.
