September 1, 2017. At Kingston, Ontario.

This morning we went into the marina office and settled up with them for launching last night and leaving the truck and trailer here. After that I went on line with my notebook computer and contacted Verizon. After an hour and a half of live chat with "Taylor" I was still no closer to having phone service. First Taylor said it was because I did not have 4G phones. I said yes, we do. Taylor said you're right, you do. You do not have coverage because you have 4G and it's not supported by outdated Canadian systems. Perhaps your phones would work if you purchased a local SIM card.

I went into the office and asked, and of course they all have 4G and it works fine. Their office phones do not allow long distance calling so I used a pay phone and called the number Taylor gave me for international Verizon coverage. "Yolanda" said I did not have coverage because I did not have 4G.... same runaround. AUGGH.

After setting up the boat we parked the trailer and drove to the mall. We went to 5 different cell phone kiosks and each one tried a SIM card in my phone, it did not work and they sent me to a different kiosk in the hopes that it was their system and that a different system might work. I finally gave up and we went to lunch. Then we stopped at the grocery store for fresh food.

We came back to the marina and worked on the boat, putting up sails and arranging things for tomorrow. I walked around and found where to fill our water jugs.

The windmills on Wolfe Island were shining in the evening sun. Kingston Penitentiary is right next to the marina. There are tours there but when we drove past earlier today they were already sold out for the day. I remember cycling past the Penitentiary when I biked around Lake Ontario several years ago.

Since we had lunch at 3 PM we just snacked on cheese and crackers for dinner. While we were dining they were testing the fireboat on the north side of the marina.

Bill and I had a glass of wine; Yi Chia is allergic to alcohol so she did not imbibe. All in all it was a good day--we can live without phone service. Life is good.
