June 22, Grant to Stanton, 43 miles.

This day started out hot and got hotter... it looks like that is going to be a pattern! We ate breakfast with Ian and Alex and gave their mother our cell phone number so we could find each other at the end of the day. The fruit stop today was at a lake where a lot of people jumped in to cool off. We did not do that but wished later that we had!

Along the road today we saw the rib cage and spinal cord of a deer... photo opportunity! Toby was slowing down a bit as we approached the town of Trufant so we stopped and ate--we all felt better afterward even though it was a bit early in the ride for lunch... this area is well known for its many petrified stumps and we stopped for a photo at the one that was directly across the street from the ice cream place. That's the thing about biking all day--you eat lot of ice cream! Our average speed for the day was 10.9 MPH. Ian and family set up camp next to us and a good time was had by all.
