February 21-28, 2021

Our friends Ed and Jean, who live next door to us in Michigan, came to visit for a weekend. We rented a pontoon boat and motored down to Homosassa Springs. Bill drove the boat... we motored past Monkey Island (look closely and you'll see monkeys).

Bill and I jumped in the water at Homosassa Springs, and when Bill got out of the water, Jean jumped in! We snorkeled and swam among the manatees.

It was slightly chilly their last night with us, but we had wine on the dock anyway!

After Ed and Jean left, Fred, Doris, Bill and I loaded up the kayaks and canoe and drove to Silver Spring to traverse the Silver River where monkeys have lived since (legend has it) they escaped from the set of a Tarzan movie during filming. We did not see any monkeys today, but had a nice paddle... I saw a couple of alligators, and we all saw manatees and plenty of turtles. Doris said this was the first time they'd been on that water and not seen monkeys!

We biked and/or kayaked every day until it was time to come home. The last evening I kayaked out to the springs with Fred and Doris while Bill sailed his little boat. We all went to dinner at the restaurant attached to our resort.

We loaded the truck on Saturday night and left at 6 AM Sunday to head home. We encountered heavy traffic near Atlanta (no surprise) and torrential rain in Kentucky. We made it home safely before 1 AM Monday March 1.
