Fred and Dianne both wanted to bike on the Erie Canalway Trail, so we drove to Port Byron and unloaded the bikes there.

The trail was a little rough, but not impassible.

While crossing a bridge over an aqueduct, Jim's light flew off his bike and landed in the water! Of course he stopped and went down the hill, waded into the water and retrieved his light!

After about 5 miles the trail suddenly turned very bad! Dianne gave up on it sooner than the rest of us. We toughed it out and then found out later that we were on the wrong section! The signs were misleading. We found our way back to the official Erie Canalway Trail.

We stopped riding when we saw Bill at the Sims Store Museum at Camillus. We'd only ridden 11 miles. Too bad about being on the wrong trail!

We drove to Syracuse to the Erie Canal Museum, reputed to be the best among many museums along the canal. Inside this museum is the last remaining canalboat weigh station. It was an interesting time, all depicted in exhibits throughout the building.
